Book, Ranald MacDonald

Book, Ranald MacDonald
Pacific Rim adventurer. Born in Astoria in 1824, Ranald MacDonald entered secretive Japan in 1848 at the risk of his life. There he was interned and ordered to teach English to Japanese translators, who later served key roles when Japan was forced to open it's doors to the outside world.
MacDonald went on to travel throughout Asia, Australia, Europe and Canada before returning to the Pacific Northwest.
